Do you use the Microsoft spyware detection removal program Windows Defender?

How would you rate Microsoft Windows Defender compared to other spyware detection removal programs? What do you believe Microsoft can do to improve Windows Defender?

Windows Defender ROCKS!. Okay, so it may not be the very best anti - threat package out there. but it's FREE! Paired up with any number of other anti - spyware tools and you will be near impentrible. I use it with OneCare which makes it one of the better "suites" out there. Again, pair OneCare up with a package like Prevx and you can breathe a bit easier. I also use SiteAdviser. and LinkScanner similar, but better to prequalify search targets. Who, ME paranoid? ; -

I have been a beta tester of Windows Defender since it's early releases and find few flaws witht the interface now. I have used it on a few units in the office that I knew to be heavily infested with spyware and it resolved the issues with alacrity. I am satisfied that it is working in the background without my constant supervision and nurturing. It is like a trusted employee that I depend on to tell me what is currently wrong and to work on the problem with due diligence and let me know when it has completed it's task. To improve it, I do not feel it's a resource hog but on my laptop, I do get a more sluggish response so that could be addressed. I also wish the download could be accomplished faster. Going through the validation process is too time consuming for me and I hate wasting time when I could be QnA'ing instead
Yes I use it. It works very well. If you follow good surfing habits it will greatly reduce the risk of spyware and malware related problems. My kids also use it. Kids are much more brutal on computers so additional steps sometimes are needed, not because the program is not working, because they allow the installation of programs they have been told not to install
No I do not use the Windows protection software. I have heard it is not that good. I just use AVG Anti - Virus, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad - Aware SE, which is good enough to be included in Google's desktop. I would definitely recommend these programs instead of relying on Windows' or McAfee. However, DEFINATELY get the McAfee SiteAdvisor plugin for your internet browser. It advises you about all search results, so you know not to go sites with harmful downloads and spam
